Thai Restaurant Sawadee

Restaurant Sawadee is located on the backside of Daiei Mall. Although the name on their building and their website says "Asian Dining" and "Asian Restaurant" it's safe to call it a Thai restaurant as most dishes are along Thai lines, and the name itself, Sawadee, is Thai. But some of their dishes seem to represent Indonesia as well. Beers from across Asia are well covered with choices of San Miguel from the Philippines, Tsingtao from China, 333 from Vietnam, Bintang from Indonesia, Tiger from Singapore, and Thai Singha.

"Asian Dining" Sawadee
Sawadee is a great place for lunch.  There are a good number of set lunches to choose from or you could just order from the limited lunch menu.  It's 980 Yen on weekends and holidays (without drink) and you won't leave hungry.  That price goes to 880 (with drink during weekdays).

The food is well prepared. The vegetables are fresh and high quality ingredients seem to be the rule.

If you go for lunch on Wednesdays, they have a buffet for about 1050Yen. Plan on getting there at about 11:15 to queue up or just wait until the first wave of lunch diners are done at about noon.

Lunch Set menu
The lunch set menu changes every so often, but the offerings are basically the same. Some noodle dishes, some fried rice, Tom Yum, seafood, pork, chicken, etc.

The set includes an appetizer dish like summer rolls along with "chimaki" (sticky rice wrapped in bamboo leaves), a spicy salad, the main course, and tapioca with coconut milk for dessert.

Backside of the set menu to order individual plates
The dinner menu is much more extensive and includes some set courses to choose from.

When ordering ala carte, I find the dishes to be just a bit on the small side for my American liking. Most any dish costs 1000yen no matter if its a vegetable or a meat/seafood. If I remember right, the dinner courses do not include drink.

Dinner for the three usually comes out between 60-70 USD depending on how many fresh mango juices my lovely daughter orders, and also depends on the Yen rate. Now that the rate is getting better I'd figure around $20-25 a person for dinner.

You can check the course menu here.

Park in the Daiei mall and bring your parking ticket to have it validated. You may also park in and around their restaurant but the number of spaces is limited, especially on the weekend. If you're unsure about the parking procedure at Daiei check out these easy instructions here.

Closer look at the Tom Yum Noodles. You can see good attention to detail here in the preparation.
