Another fine place to barbeque here in Yokosuka. What sets this place apart is their somewhat lower prices than other Yakiniku restaurants, and a salad bar. Another really nice thing about Amiyaki-tei is that you can drive there and park for free in their ample sized lot.
Amiyaki-tei - second floor with parking underneath and in back |
A salad bar is fairly rare in Yokosuka. I'm aware of one at the Big Boy in Daiei and at the Burger place behind Sawadee Asian Dining near Daiei (Shoppers Plaza). Are there others out there?
Amiyaki-Tei has an English menu that suffices although it's not as complete as the Japanese menu. For most of us, just ask for the Eigo (ay-go) menu and you'll have plenty to choose from. Then press the button and the staff will take your order as you point to the pictures. They do speak some English.
Amiyaki means grilling and Tei 亭 means pavilion or restaurant. Dissecting Amiyaki we get Ami or 網 which means "netting" and Yaki or 焼きwhich means "bake or burning." Put them together and you have grilling. Quite often Kanji compounds make perfect sense like this.
Amiyaki Tei is located on Hwy 16 heading south before you get to Kalbi House, Nigiri Icho and Otsu Garden, but just 20 meters past Ayaka Korean. See the blog map or click on the location link at the very bottom of the post.
Compared to the other yakiniku places, I'd say Amiyaki-tei has slightly smaller serving sizes, however their prices are noticeably cheaper than elsewhere. We spend about $15 to $20 less here than we do at the other yakiniku places.
The salad bar is shown in the photo below. Basic salad section, a fruit section, and a dessert section in a small refrigerated case.
Drink bar is nice and cheap at 180 Yen with a wide variety of choices. And here is a hint I just learned recently. If cold corn or green tea is OK with you. There is no charge for those. Just head up to the drink bar and take a glass behind the pitchers of those items. For the paid juice bar, you'll be delivered a special glass.
Some menu options |
They have several different types of soup including egg, seaweed, seaweed and egg, and spicy.
The plate on the bottom left above is an assorted kimchi plate. On the bottom right a small bibimbap.
Salad and fruit bar |
You can tell a place is good by the number of customers. Get here by 5:00 pm and you'll have no problem getting in. 6:00 pm or later and you may have to wait.

Drink Bar - including some slushies |
You might see it empty like this during lunch, but not at dinner. |
