Ever want to bring your dog with you while you go out to eat lunch or dinner? Well
Kaneyo solves that problem with a pet friendly atmosphere, allowing you to bring your dog right into the restaurant.
Kaneyo is a very laid back place as you can guess. Jon Hitoshi is the owner. He likes to surf and has traveled the world doing so. If a surfer owned a place on the beach, I suppose it would look a lot like this.

For now, the menu is in Japanese (although some of the headers are in English), but just ask Jon and he'll be more than happy to explain to you the menu options. Jon speaks very good English. He is planning on putting out a new menu with English but it's not out yet. The menus are posted at the bottom.
The laid back atmosphere is contrasted with the well thought out and prepared food that comes out of the kitchen.

Shrimp and Peperoncino Pasta - 1200 Yen |

Spicy Chicken - (not spicy by American standards) |
The food was all really good. This is not surprising because the chef previously worked in a high end French restaurant in Tokyo called Chez Matsuo, before coming down here and enjoying a slower pace.
Tabelog, the restaurant review site gives Kaneyo a 3.47 which is quite high. There are a lot of Japanese that search this place out when visiting the Miura Peninsula.
Jon's got a website called
Art on the Beach which has links to
his blog, a map, and a facebook page. The restaurant hours for the month are posted on
his blog. For this month it looks like 11:00-18:00 weekdays and 11:00-22:00 weekends. When at the restaurant you can view the monthly schedule too showing the days they are closed. See the photo near the bottom.

Getting to Kaneyo's is a little bit tricky. I put its location on the
blog map, but you travel down the seaside road to Maborikaigan. Soon you'll be traveling on a palm tree lined street and may think you're in California for a second. The road will narrow to two lanes and then climb a hill where you'll be surrounded by trees on both sides. After this opens up there will be a restaurant and side street going to the left.
Turn left just before the restaurant. You'll see a pay parking lot to your left. Don't go into the pay lot though. Then right. Then left, and right. Go down this little alley, pulling over to the side to let oncoming traffic pass. Go all the way to the end and you'll see a small parking area for Kaneyo.
If you're having trouble finding parking send someone in to talk to Jon and he will help you find a spot.

Kanji Sidebar: Shokudou
食堂 means restaurant, cafeteria, or dining hall. It's made up of
食 which means eat or food and 堂 which means public chamber or hall.
This is looking out towards the water. Simple tables and chairs. Lots of natural light.
