Machu Picchu - A Peruvian restaurant as wonderful as the site it was named after.
Recently opened, they have rapidly gained an outstanding reputation. If you've never tried Peruvian food, I recommend you give Machu Picchu's authentic food a shot. They have plenty of offerings that are sure to please all the diverse palettes out there.

Warm and inviting atmosphere |

Update to original post. As of June 2, 2014 Machu Picchu has opened up a new restaurant which is located right next to Nawlins. Both are very close to base. Just check the blog map and you'll see it. The pictures here are from the old place, which I'm not sure if it is still open. Think it might be since I haven't seen Sissy at the new place yet. The food menu seems to have changed a bit as well.

Sissy and her assistant |
Sissy is the owner and expert chef. She was born and raised in Peru, learning to cook at a young age from her family - and attended cooking school while there as well. You'll be the beneficiary of all those years of training. She doesn't cut any corners either. Each dish is prepared carefully. As such, you may have to wait a bit if there are others in the restaurant. Some safe bets for first timers to Peruvian food are any of the dishes I've shown below except for the Parihuela, plus a few other common items you recognize on the menu like tacos.
We are very lucky to have a place like Machu Picchu here in Yokosuka. It takes an entrepreneur like Sissy a lot of work to open up a restaurant in a foreign land with multiple barriers in the way.
You can check out a lot more of their food on their
Facebook page. Good site to see there
menu is here.
Somebody asked me to put their hours on the blog. Occasionally I do this and occasionally I forget to do this. Here is what Tabelog says about their hours:
16:00~24:00
夜10時以降入店可、日曜営業 They are open on Sundays
定休日 火曜日 Rest day/day off is Tuesday. So don't do there on Tuesdays!
P.S. All this is on their Facebook page! And if I didn't say it, they only take cash (Yen). |

Columbian Empanadas with homemade salsa |
Empanadas were high quality. Add a bit of zing with the spicy and fresh homemade salsa.
|
Chaufa de Mariscos - nicely done! Seafood fried rice basically. |
|
Looks good doesn't it....Jalea de Mariscos |
The Jalea de Mariscos is my personal favorite. The roasted salted corn on top is sometimes served as an appetizer by itself.
|
Milanesa de Polla - Chicken Breast |
|
Homemade Guacamole and chips |
|
Beef Arroz Chaufa |
|
Parihuela |
|
Lomo Saltado |

Look for the Kirin vending machine |
This is the old place above. I'm not even sure if it is still open.
|
Fried Plantain chips |
Open Wednesday through Monday, 4:00pm to midnight.
The menu below is for the old location. The new location has a new menu I believe.
